The Visit of Dr. Sie from Harrow School UK
We were honored to host Dr. Eric Sie from Harrow School in the UK at Harrow Beijing. With 11 years of experience at Harrow School, Dr. Sie made a special trip to share his insights on studying chemistry at Imperial College London with our Year 13 students. He also discussed how he discovered his passion and transformed it into a lifelong career.
In engaging with our Y13 students, Dr. Sie emphasized the importance of valuing time, working diligently, reading extensively, and embracing the joy of acquiring knowledge at this stage. He highlighted how these efforts lay a solid foundation for addressing global challenges in the future. Dr. Sie reminded us that success does not come easily, and only perseverance and unwavering efforts can lead to greatness. With over 30 years of experiences in chemistry education, he also shared the challenges he faced in his research journey, including failed experiments that resulted in the loss of half a year’s work. However, he always found strength in these setbacks, transforming defeat into victory. He encouraged students to fully commit to their passions, viewing failures as opportunities for growth and continuing to push forward until they achieve success.
Addressing the students’ inquiries about chemical research methodologies, Dr. Sie encouraged them to read professional literature widely and make full use of library and online resources. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, noting that collaborating with like-minded peers can greatly enhance personal growth and learning. For those aspiring to apply to the Chemistry Department at Imperial College London, Dr. Sie, as an alumnus, provided valuable insights on how to prepare for university interviews. He expressed his hopes for our Harrow Beijing students, eagerly anticipating their potential for even greater success as they write their own remarkable chapters.
