Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, a treasured gem among China’s traditional holidays, not only symbolizes a warm time for family reunions but also serves as a beautiful moment to express longing and send blessings. Recently, students at Harrow Beijing participated in a series of festive activities rich in Chinese cultural traditions, celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and experiencing the essence and charm of traditional Chinese culture.

Year 2 students used primary colors—red, yellow, and blue dry clay to cleverly mix and explore the mysteries of secondary and tertiary colors, creating vibrant scenes of moon.

Year 3 students unleashed their creativity by skillfully combining various materials, such as laminated film, air-dry clay, and colored paper to explore the artistic expression of mixed media. They produced lanterns in the shape of rabbits, reminiscent of the legendary Jade Rabbit, adding festive charm.

Year 4 students skillfully incorporated gradient colours into their works, depicting stunning scenes of the Mid-Autumn night.

Year 5 students transformed discarded cardboard boxes into three-dimensional models of ‘Chang’e Flying to the Moon’ and ‘Human Moon Landing’. Through painting, cutting, and pasting, they honed their practical skills.

At Harrow Beijing, we place great emphasis on enhancing students’ Chinese literacy and promoting the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture. Through Chinese language and cultural courses, we not only strengthen students’ language skills but also deepen their understanding of Chinese history, geography, literature, and traditional festivals. This approach supports their comprehensive development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while a wide range of humanities-based courses and cultural activities enrich their appreciation and sense of identity with Chinese culture. Moreover, the curriculum focuses on fostering students’ cultural confidence and cross-cultural understanding, equipping them with a strong sense of social responsibility and citizenship in a globalized world, and laying a solid foundation for their future growth.
