International Schools Young Musician
It was our great pleasure to host this year’s Beijing International Schools Young Musician Competition at Harrow Beijing. Formerly known as “Young Musician of the Future,” this prestigious event was established in 2005 by musician Shin Mi and continues to celebrate outstanding musical talent and collaboration among schools in Beijing.
This year’s competition, held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, brought together exceptional soloists representing their schools. Open to musicians of all ages, the competition encourages each participating school to select their finest musician to take part. We were delighted to witness incredible performances on violin, piano, clarinet, and pipa, featuring virtuosic pieces by composers such as Stravinsky, Chopin, Wieniawski, and Barber.
Let’s take a look at the finals scene!
1st place: Muqi Y. (Year 6, Harrow Beijing)
At just 11 years old, Muqi has already achieved remarkable success. Last summer, she won the 2nd pirze at Grumiaux International Violin Competition.
Ms. Malika Richards, Head of Music at Harrow Beijing, reflected on the event:
“While technically it`s a competition, it is also a celebration of music and collaboration between International Schools in Beijing. The dedication and hard work of these remarkable young performers have inspired us all.”
We would like to thank our distinguished panel of judges for their expertise and dedication:
Evelyn Sun: A classically trained pianist with extensive experience in choral accompaniment, chamber music, and orchestral work. Based in Beijing, she has been a key figure in music education and performance.
Matt Roberts: A trombonist and jazz musician who has been performing in China since 1990. He is a founding member of the Ah-Q Jazz Arkestra and a passionate advocate for collaborative composition.
Cao Hui: A celebrated pianist and faculty member at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Ms. Cao has performed internationally and collaborated with many renowned musicians.
We also extend our gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support—it truly takes a great effort to nurture young musicians.
