Mr Philip Akerman

Head of Harrow Beijing

“A levels represent the Gold Standard of 16-18 education; as a result the examinations are always extremely challenging which is why I, on behalf of all of us here at Harrow Beijing, wish to congratulate our students for their outstanding results this summer. We will indeed miss our class of 2024 so much but we know they will go on to lead and do great things in their chosen fields as they live out our mission: “Educational Excellence for Life and Leadership.”

Regarding the A Level results achieved by the students of Harrow Beijing this year, Mr Andrew Hayes, the Director of Studies of Upper School, expressed that the graduates have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements.

“There are many stand-out performances worthy of note across all academic subjects and disciplines, and the excellent grades are testament to the hard work of the students and teachers, as well as the support from our pastoral teams, counsellors and parents. In terms of social sciences, these include Angela Zou who achieved A*s in Physics, Maths and Economics. We wish her well as she moves on to study Economics at the University of California – San Diego. David Zhou has secured his place studying Economics at the University of Cambridge upon achieving two A*s and two A grades, and similarly, Deputy Head girl Rachel Bu excelled in her examinations, achieving two A*s and one A grade, and she will head to University College London (UCL) to study PPE. Maria Xu achieved a full complement of A’s and has had her place confirmed to study History at the London School of Economics (LSE). Similarly, students studying science subjects performed brilliantly; David Shi has confirmed his place studying Biochemistry at UCL after achieving A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematicsand Tiger Zhao heads off to Durham University to study Physics after achieving one A* and two A grades,” Mr Hayes said.

World Gold Standard

A Level Curriculum

The A Level program, as the gold standard curriculum in international high school education, is highly recognized by top universities in countries such as the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, and others. Through high-quality A Level teaching, our school has consistently helped students secure acceptances to elite universities, including the UK’s G5 super elite universities like Oxford and Cambridge, Ivy League institutions such as Yale University, Cornell University, Columbia University in the USA, and other top 100 universities worldwide for several consecutive years.

What sets Harrow Beijing’s A Level program apart is that it is rooted in the renowned Harrow School in the UK and taught by teachers with extensive global experience in A Level teaching. Compared to other international curriculum systems, A Level allows students to explore and study subject knowledge more deeply based on their own interests. Whether choosing to apply for popular majors or niche fields, students at Harrow Beijing receive personalized support and guidance. This personalized support not only enables students to excel in their areas of interest but also adds unique personal highlights to their applications to top universities worldwide.

In addition, Harrow Beijing offers a three-year A Level program in addition to the traditional two-year A Level program, to meet the needs of more students for international education and help them prepare for entry into top universities worldwide.

Gender Studies

“Compared to the IB curriculum’s subject requirements, A Level allows us to freely combine subjects we are interested in. At the A Level stage, students can choose three subjects that interest them. I chose History, Literature, and Drama Studies, which allowed me to delve deeply into my interests in performing arts and humanities. In my Literature and Drama classes, I was exposed to many works focused on female subjects, which deepened my understanding of gender studies and influenced my decision to pursue related fields in university.”

Chemistry

“For A-levels, I chose mathematics, economics, chemistry, and Spanish. The school’s curriculum allows me to select subjects I’m interested in alongside the core courses. I’m grateful to my Spanish teacher for enabling me to speak three languages now. I believe that motivation for learning mainly comes from interest; only when driven by interest can one persevere and succeed, especially when university studies are challenging and not easy to succeed in.”
