二十年卓越办学,共创辉煌未来-哈罗北京20周年启动仪式


On 24th of  February 2025, Harrow Beijing celebrated the launch of its 20th anniversary, commemorating two decades of excellence, innovation and commitment to nurturing future leaders. On this important occasion, Mr. Alastair Land, Headmaster of Harrow School UK, officially kicked off this milestone anniversary celebration with Mr. Philip Akerman, Headmaster of Harrow Beijing. The event not only highlighted Harrow Beijing’s deep ties to its long history, but also signalled an even brighter future. 

Looking back over the past 20 years, Harrow Beijing has always been committed to nurturing the wisdom and character of the younger generation, inspiring students to thrive, innovate and lead with integrity through academic excellence and a holistic education philosophy. The school’s rigorous academic system combined with all-round literacy training enables students to take on challenges in an increasingly globalised world.

In his keynote speech at the ceremony, Harrow Beijing Headmaster said, “In the most effective learning environments I have ever seen, the teachers in these classroom shape the classroom culture and atmosphere to drive students’ intellectual curiosity. Young people thrive in an environment where adults around them lead by example and demonstrate the qualities they expect from their students – humility, perseverance, and enthusiasm for self-improvement. As Heads of Schools, one of our priorities is how to transfer this positive culture of learning from one classroom to another, ultimately creating a learning climate throughout the campus where everyone in the school – from the Head Teacher to the Senior management team, from the faculty to the support team – maintains a lifelong learning philosophy.”

In comparison, the 20 years of Harrow Beijing may be a short moment, but 20 years is enough for us to look back and reflect on what we have achieved. 20 years is enough for us to witness each graduating class leave the school and develop their trajectory in society, proving we are on the right path and laying a solid foundation for future development. ”

At the ceremony, the Headmaster of Harrow School UK, also expressed his pride and satisfaction at the growth of Harrow Beijing over the past 20 years. Speaking at the Keynote Education Forum, he said, ” I was deeply impressed by my first visit to Harrow Beijing, Harrow School has a strong and strategic relationship with Harrow Beijing, and we are all part of the Harrow family. At the same time, we are located in the capitals of both countries, and it is this geography that makes our two schools more focused on developing children’s leadership skills so that they can serve the community from a global perspective. “

Twenty years ago, Harrow Beijing was a new chapter in the Harrow education system, embarking on a new journey of academic excellence and holistic education in China. Today, Harrow Beijing is a model of excellence in education, reflecting the hard work, vision and dedication of the entire school community – students, teachers, parents and staff. Despite its 453-year-old history, the shared heritage, core values and vision for the future between Harrow Beijing and Harrow UK have always been closely linked. The Harrow’s holistic education system has always been based on its core values, fostering intellectual curiosity, academic passion and leadership development. It is these values that are deeply embedded in Harrow Beijing’s educational philosophy that enables students to achieve academic excellence not only but also leadership skills in a globalised society.

One of the highlights of Harrow Beijing is the outstanding performance of its graduates in applying to top universities around the world. This year, 2 students were offered places at the University of Oxford, and another 2 students were admitted to the University of Cambridge. This is a testament to the excellent quality of teaching and the strong support system at Harrow Beijing. Speaking with our Year 9-13 students, Mr. Alastair Land also mentioned the importance of a passion for learning in shaping the future, saying, “Passion comes mainly from your own heart, you need to understand what you want, what you believe in your heart, how you plan your studies, what you like, how you feel you can succeed, and what support you need. All the enthusiasm comes from curiosity and asking questions. I would like to congratulate the students of Harrow Beijing on their outstanding results, and as with each and every one of us in the future, we will continue to do so. I hope that every student can read more books and find their enthusiasm for learning from books; Ask more questions, and constantly optimise your knowledge of the subject in the questioning; Follow your heart’s choice, love your chosen profession and stick to it; Maintain a passion for learning in a continuous lifelong learning process. 

As Harrow Beijing moves to the next stage of development, the school will continue to embrace educational innovation, expand its global perspective, and inspire the growth of the next generation of leaders. “Over the next three to five years, we will further strengthen the school in a number of ways to ensure that we are mindful of the past and actively explore the future.” Headmaster Philip Akerman said, “On the academic side, we will develop our programmes in STEM subjects while broadening and deepening our provision in the arts, performing arts and sports. As we remain committed to Harrow UK’s educational philosophy, while exam results are crucial and must achieve excellent results, we believe that it is a holistic education that truly benefits students throughout their lives, not only shaping their academic abilities, but also developing their leadership skills to continue to succeed in their future lives. In addition, we will strengthen our ties with families and the wider community, so that students can truly translate their learning experiences into contributions to society. ”
